The CrownCoat system is a brushable, flexible sealant for surface cracking and minor spalling where the structural crown is still sound underneath. To identify what you have, look for a stamped metal tag on the chimney cap frame or a paper label left inside the firebox during the original installation. If neither tag is present, we measure crown thickness at the drip edge. Signs Your HeatShield Crown Repair Is Failing

• Hairline cracks widening to pencil-width gaps. CrownCoat is flexible but not immortal. After 8-12 Fairfield winters of freeze-thaw cycling, the acrylic binder degrades. Water gets behind the coating, freezes, and pops it off in sheets. We see this most on south-facing crowns that cook all summer then freeze hard by January.
